Open Evening

Hello

I have now reached £1,600ish…… on the second Saturday in September the local church donated all the money they raised for their open door café between me and Andrew. We ended up with about £70 each. Also when I posted my last blog I was at Work Experience at Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton for two weeks. Now I have done that I have got £50 worth of tips for the two weeks work. I also have just finished writing the letters to companies asking for donations and they went in the post this morning.

Every year the school I go to (Tadcaster Grammar) holds an open evening for the current year 6’s and year 7’s to be. This year my fundraising group decided that we would help with the open evening and did a cake stall with Guess The Name Of The Teddy and Where Is The Treasure Hidden, we managed to get £80 between us from that and also the caterers in the kitchen were giving away free samples of food and gave all the donations from that to us. We are very grateful!! That brought the total to £120ish and we think we’ve ended up with about £28 each.
Earlier this month I did a calculation and worked out that if I were to get a job that gave me roughly £100 per month, then I would only have to raise £60 each month when the Paper Round is taken into account!

Hello again,

A lot has happened since last time, so here goes.

First my friend Andrew and I have been gardening for people while they are away, by mowing their lawns, hopefully we will get a fair amount of money for this to go towards the trip.
Also I have sold lots of quizzes – but only had a few back!! The closing date has now arrived, so thank you for buying one and returning them if you have. If you haven’t returned it and was planning on, I’m sorry but the closing deadline has now past, and any more entries will not be entered in the draw!
A week ago yesterday was my sixteenth birthday, and for that I received lots of money, money, money! Over £200 went towards Tanzania, which is very good!!!!!

And of course, all this means that from all these things that I’ve done over the summer holidays…..

I have reached the summer holiday target, and passed it with flying colours - I now have OVER £1,200 towards Tanzania!!
Also I am currently on my work experience at Ye Old Sun Inn, a pub near where I live. If I can get a job there, then I would be very grateful, also if I get some of the tips from the two weeks I work there then that would help the cause a lot.
Currently I am drafting some letters to send to people and companies, asking for sponsorship/donations. But this task is becoming increasingly difficult because thinking of the right companies to write to is no easy task.

Milestone Approaches

Hello again

Well let’s start with the good news, I am currently only £9 off £800, and my target for the end of the summer is £1000, which means I have six weeks to raise £209, which will hopefully be doable.

Also recently we held a Tennis Tournament at our school, where we raised £100 but, we didn’t get a lot back because we had to pay for prizes and refreshments. From the tournament though we learnt that some food and drinks, for example Lucazade Sports, go really really quickly. In the end we received about £20 each, this wasn’t as much as we were expecting – but it is £20 less we have to raise. We do plan on doing a lot more of these sporty tournament things, because they’re fun and bring in the money at a reasonable rate, we just have to hope that the weather is good. This is Britain though, so it’s not going to be too promising!!

The quizzes. I have probably sold around 25 of the quizzes so far, and guess how many I have back – NONE. If you have a quiz and want the money, you do need to send it to me because you can’t win if you don’t!!!

Today I helped someone in there garden in Leeds and received an amazing £150 for a days work, which takes my total to £941, and when my end of summer target is £1000, I’m not far off at all!!!

General Knowledge Quiz

Hi again,

I recently released a fund raising general knowledge quiz with fifty questions on it, which is up for sale at £1 a copy, the winner receive £25. If there is a tie then the winner will be drawn out of a hat. The closing date is the end of August. So if you want a quiz, don’t hesitate to contact me – my email address is on the website under the “contact me” section.

Also last week on Thursday we held a cake stall in the school hall, with lots of really good cakes that were a hit. We sold out literally as soon as we had opened. Although the total amount was a lot less than expected. We only made £78 which I think worked out at about £11 each. But I’m not complaining because its £11 less we don’t have to raise ourselves!

We had another one of those fundraising meetings at lunchtime again last week, and we have now set up a fundraising committee and there could be some events to help the new year sevens settle in when school starts again in September. Also in the meeting we had a quiz to get a general understanding about what it is actually like in Tanzania, and our group won!

The business cards haven’t been as big as I expected so far. I think we have had one job offered – but neither Andy nor I could do it! So hopefully they will start to pick up from here and be a bit more of a hit.

First Milestone Reached!!!!!

Hi again, today I went to a mini-market at my local church. We did a mini car boot sale stall selling cakes and junk that we (my parents!) didn’t really want. It started at nine thirty and finished at one thirty. The stall had a really slow start making about five pounds in the first hour and by half ten I think we all thought we would be lucky to leave with thirty pounds between us - I was doing it with my good friend Andy, so we would have ended up with fifteen pounds each.

But with a bit of imagination, persuasion and smiling we started selling items around the car park away from the stall. After all the hard work and persuasion we managed to raise a staggering £99.22 which (when Dad made it up to £100) gave us £50 each! Andy's sister had made some candles so we had to give her £2.25, leaving us each with just a bit less than £50.

We were really pleased with the amount we raised and want to do more of this stuff in the future but on a bigger scale. Also when we sold something we would give a business card to everyone that bought something. The business card advertises our services as "Odd Job Boys". We think that the handing out of the business cards will overall bring in more than the stall did because a lot of people were asking about our ranges and prices! So we hope that we have done enough to help raise the money needed for Tanzania!

So why is the title of this posting "First Milestone Reached!!!!!" Well the first payment installment is due in a couple of weeks time. The £50 raised on saturday means that I will have raised enough to pay the bill, which is £350. Well done me!

Not Much To Report

Hey I’m back again, the exams finished and we now how our journals and t-shirts. I really like them. The paper round is getting harder because I not used to the early mornings. Also dad has now paid me for the very important job and I got £50 - he never told me it would be this much! It's now in the account. Mums friends have more jobs so I’ve got more to do when I have the chance, and grandma is keeping all the money I earn and giving it in a cheque at the end.

In our group we have decided to do the Three Peaks which could be a challenge and also we are going bag packing soon. The places we are going are Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Tesco’s, ASDA’s and Marks and Spencer’s. For this to happen we just need all the addresses and contact details of one of the group members but he has been off ill for a while so we don’t know when we will get to go bag packing now.

Not much to say really. I guess that means that I ned to work a bit harder to raise the money. My Dad certainly thinks so!!!

Paper Round and Fundraising Groups

Hi, I’m back again. Not a lot to report this time because of exams at school. I got one job off my Dad – stuffing envelopes for his work. He said it was ‘very important’! I still need to be paid for this for an ‘undisclosed fee’ too. So hopefully that will add to my total. I also just started a paper round which gets me up at 6 each morning (I didn’t even know there was a 6 in the morning!) and I get £18 a week roughly. This is good as it means a regular source of money which should make a big contribution over the next year.

Second week back at school after Easter. We had another meeting today with the girl who is helping us from World Challenge. We discussed ideas for fundraising and we’ve split into fundraising groups. We’ve come to the decision to do bag packing at a supermarket before the end of the summer term. We want to get in before any other groups apply! We may well do it again near Christmas which gets me even more money. Today in the meeting we were given our fundraising t-shirts which will show people what we are raising for and also a planner/journal to record our ideas and got everyone’s contact details that are in my group. Our group is meeting again next Tuesday to discuss what’s happening with the bag packing and where we’re going (there are a few supermarkets we are writing to in and around York) and also our group name and when we could meet up in the summer holidays.

Other ideas for raising money include a cake stall (which we are hoping to do next week!!), talent shows (we’ve been talking about this and loads of ideas have come from everyone so it will probably be a hit and we may be able to do it again at a later date!!), non-uniform days (which will be good because together we could get over £1000 which would be well worth it!!) and loads more which would hopefully bring in the cash.
